The Great Global Greyhound Walk, Dumfries – 25th September 2022
Great Global Greyhound Walk 2022

After a gap of a few years the annual Great Global Greyhound Walk (GGGW) was once again held on Sunday 25th September 2022 and DCGR were delighted to take part. Our walk organiser Graham did a magnificent job of  gathering us all together at Dock Park in Dumfries for the event to raise awareness of the breed and show the public just what wonderful pets retired greyhounds make.

And we weren’t alone! Last time the GGGW was held 7,509 greyhounds took part in 27 counties on 343 walks and this year saw a record beating 29 countries taking part and a grand total of 10,620 sighthounds walked!

Our own walk in Dumfries attracted 42 hounds to walk through the Park and onwards toward Kingholm Quay and return. Apart from promoting the greys as family pets, it was a greyt social gathering for humans and dogs alike. The weather stayed fine and those that noticed would have seen the Nith Bore as it travelled upstream towards the Town. Not as powerful as the one on the River Severn but still a magnificent sight.

We had attendees from Hexham and Egremont and even walkers and hounds from the Isle of Mull who were on holiday in the Dumfries area. With the small sales table for walkers and charitable donations, over £145 will be winging its way to DCGR funds next week.

A big thanks from DCGR to all those who took the time out of their busy lives to promote the greyhounds and our charity. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
