DCGR has recently reached a remarkable milestone by rehoming our 2,000th greyhound.
In just over 20 years since the charity was formed in 2002 and thanks to the commitment of all our volunteers, supporters, adopters and fosterers, Dumfriesshire and Cumbria Greyhound Rescue has found 2,000 safe and loving new homes for ex-racing greyhounds and injured or non-working sighthounds and lurchers.
So please join us in congratulating Carlos, a handsome 3 year old brindle boy, a retired ex-racing greyhound and definite heart stealer who was recently adopted in Dalbeattie by his humans Dorothy and Bryan and is enjoying his fame as the 2,000th rehomed DCGR greyhound.
Carlos has taken his celebrity status in his speedy stride and although seemingly more interested in a tasty treat and a cosy bed, has become quite the sought after superstar appearing in a giddying array of local newspapers, magazines and even featuring on the telly. Quite some achievement for a gorgeous but definitely laid back kind of boy.
Carlos (with a little help from Dorothy and Bryan) has also agreed to join us at several 2024 DCGR fundraising events as he thinks there may be some devoted fans who have yet to admire his stripey good looks. So stay tuned to our Upcoming Events page to catch Carlos at his next appearance, seek him out and ask him for his pawprint autograph.
Among his starring roles to date, Carlos has graced the pages of the gorgeous Dumfries and Galloway Life Magazine (April Edition)
featured in 2 paw-some articles in the wonderful Daily Record
and in the fantastic Galloway News
and just when his former kennel mates wondered if their old pal would still have time for zoomies with them, photogenic Carlos was straight out the traps for an opportunity to shine on the local ITV News from the Borders.
We may have worried if Carlos would adapt to life after racing, but will he now get used to adoption life after fame? Dorothy and Bryan say his paws are still firmly on the ground and he is loving his retired life in his forever home and is a wonderful companion who has fitted straight into lives with them in the usual affectionate and easy going greyhound way.
On a serious note, thank you to all the wonderful journalists and photographers who helped us celebrate and highlight this milestone and a huge debt of gratitude goes to all the adopters who have given one of these magnificent dogs a home over the last 20+ years. Every single greyhound you have rehomed thanks you more than we ever could.
DCGR is a team effort and without all the donations and fundraising, all the community supporters and helpers, the compassionate and dedicated care from our boarding kennels partners, the Charity Shop Volunteers and Foster carers we would not be here to say: Congratulations Carlos and all the rehomed greyhounds and stay tuned for the next 2,000.
If Carlos and his adventures have inspired you and if you have a spare space on your sofa and a place in your heart for a handsome hound, please get in contact today to find out more about adopting a greyhound.
