Denton Holme & Carlisle Cemetery, Cumbria

This walk is from Denton Holme, CA2 5LL in a circular route along the River Caldew to Carlisle Cemetery and returning along the river.

Starting from the parking places at the corner of North Street and Denton Street, we follow the path along the River Caldew passing the weir at the site of the victorian Holm Head Works cotton mill and on through Fairy Beck until reaching the southern corner of the Carlisle Cemetery.

From here the path leads back to Dalston Road which can be busy so please be careful of traffic. We then walk through Carlisle Cemetery enjoying the fabulous old trees teeming with wildlife, the beautiful landscaped and tranquil and historic grounds before exiting the cemetery on the northern side to rejoin the River Caldew path to our starting point.

The walk is about 2.5 miles, slightly undulating in places, on established paths but please wear appropriate footwear for the weather. Facilities include toilets at the cemetary, or cafe and toilets by Dunelm at the end of the walk.We look forward to seeing you there!
