Our Volunteering Team

DCGR is a Committee run Charity and all committee officers are nominated and appointed by the membership at the annual general meeting.
They are expected to build and maintain collaborative relationships between all members, supporters and volunteers to further the charity’s aims. In addition to the specific responsibilities outlined below, appointed officers also act as legal trustees of the charity.

Kevin Hugill

Committee Chair

Ensures that the charity and its officers comply with charity good governance guidelines and charity law.

Acts as a representative of the committee and bases their actions on the decisions of the management committee and membership.

Nominated as the registered landlord for the flat (situated above the shop) tenants.

Graham Hill

Committee Secretary

Charity Co-Founder, Membership Secretary and Events Organiser.

Organises and administers committee meetings and the AGM.

Manages correspondence and liaises with other people and groups that could help DCGR achieve its goals.

Keeps records of memberships, manages required information and acts as primary point of contact for charity and rehoming licensing registration regulations.

Bob Murray

Committee Treasurer

Maintains an account of funds, expenditure and fundraising resources, interpreting financial data and keeping the committee informed.

Liaises with the appointed auditors to produce annual accounts.

Ensures compliance with any legal requirements and the principles of good financial governance regarding charity financial management.

Viv Little

Incoming Dogs Coordinator

Committee Officer and primary point of contact for enquires and decisions regarding the incoming and fostering of dogs.

Maintains oversight of the volunteer fosterers and coordinates with kennel accommodation.

Manages decisions regarding dogs’ veterinary care in line with DCGR polices.

Outgoing Dogs Coordinator

Committee Officer and primary point of contact for enquires and decisions regarding the rehoming of dogs.

Manages adoption enquiries, suitability and matching of dogs to homes including oversight of the rehoming volunteers.

Responsible for rehoming after care and administration of dog records in line with DCGR polices and licensing requirements.

Communications Coordinator

Committee Officer and coordinator for outgoing communications including the management of content, design, maintenance and development.

Ensures the ongoing security, coordination and compliance of all communications including website, newsletters and social media accounts.

Committee Vice Chair

Deputises for the chair in their absence and assists the chair in their duties (excluding registered landlord).

Arthur Robinson

Honorary President

Charity Co-Founder and honourary President. Has oversight of the Charity Shop and volunteers.

Margaret Hill

Event Fundraiser and Donations Cordinator

Liaises with the Events Organiser on fundraising events in the Dumfriesshire area and coordinates stock donations.

Dr. Helen Michael

Event Fundraiser and Online Sales Coordinator

Liaises with the Events Organiser on fundraising events in the Cumbria area, contributes social media content and coordinates online sales.

Matt Thompson

Merchandise Coordinator

Purchases and controls the sales and rehoming stock.

Joanna Link

Website Editor

Manages the website contributions and content.

As a charity run entirely by volunteers and donations, we would not have been able to continue for 20+ years without the generous support of our members and volunteers.

Our Charity Shop volunteers, dog fosterers, financial donors and commited DCGR charity members make the charity what it is today.

Without the amazing care given at the boarding kennels who look after the dogs as they wait for homes, our homeless hounds would be truly homeless and without all the wonderful greyhound adoptors we would have ceased long ago.

Actress Annette Crosbie is also a dedicated campaigner for greyhound welfare and has had 8 rescued greyhounds over 25 years. We are very honored to have Annette as our Patron.

Monty Halls

Patron

Television broadcaster and marine biologist Monty Halls has been supporting DCGR since he became our Patron in 2009. As a passionate dog rescuer and animal lover Monty especially recommends greyhounds as loving dogs and great company.

Maddy Prior MBE

Patron

Former Steeleye Span singer Maddy Prior has been a generous donor and Patron of DCGR, now living locally and running an Arts Centre in Cumbria. We are delighted to have her continued support.
