One of the highlights of our year is attending the magnificent Summer Gala organised by Emma Maxwell of Kirgunzeon Canines. This year’s event was set to take place in the field at the Maxwell Memorial Hall in Kirkgunzeon near Dumfries. We hoped to see the 40 planned stalls, huge Fun Dog Show and amazing range of family friendly events. Storm Betty, with her torrential rain and high winds, tried to dampen our spirits and blow the event out of the field but she hadn’t reckoned on the resilient and determined group of supporters and the positive attitude of DCGR’s great friend and supporter Emma.
So the event went ahead and a great day was had by all. The Hall was dry and welcoming and the weather brightened up later to continue with some outdoor events. DCGR had a wonderful stall set up in the Hall for fundraising with all our greyhound accessories, gifts and goodies. There was amazing home baking stalls, the BBQ and tombola and an fantastic raffle too. The kids still had plenty to do and even the Fun Dog Show went ahead.
We saw at least a dozen greyhounds visiting throughout the 6 hours we were there and the charity tin bulged with an amazingly generous amount given the reduced crowd. Over £230 was raised for DCGR with an additional £150 collected by Matt and Viv at Damhead Kennels from their sales and donations at the Kennels.
From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank Emma Maxwell from Kirkgunzeon Canines for organising the event, all our supporters for coming along and joining us, Margaret, Julia, Robert and Cath for staffing our table and everyone who simply braved the storms and came to say hello.
We are already looking forward to next year’s event and hope to see you all there.
