Join Us On Our Monthly Greyhound Walks

Walk with your greyhounds in the stunning landscapes of Dumfriesshire and Cumbria. Connect with fellow greyhound lovers and take the opportunity to discuss all your houndie issues.

Support our mission to find loving homes for ex-racing Greyhounds and raise awareness of what amazing pets these dogs make. Some of our Homeless Hounds will be available to meet you on the day or you can arrange in advance to meet a particular dog of interest.

So whether it’s for fun, friendship, exercise or just for the love of dogs, join us this month on our next walk!

What Our Walkers Say

“We love joining the walks every month. It’s a great way to meet new friends and remind everyone what brilliant pets we greyhounds make. We have a lovely home because of DCGR so we like our “staff” to support a fantastic cause and keep us entertained at the same time.”

“The sniffs are greyt, we see all our pawsome pals and have fantastic adventures. We can also remind people there are still plenty of us greyhounds waiting for forever homes… and it’s always worth trying to sneak extra treats from Hoomans’ pockets without detection.”

    • No, the walk is open to everyone. We encourage people to just come along and ask about greyhounds or meet greyhounds needing homes.
  • Can I bring dogs of other breeds to the walk?
    • Yes, all well behaved dogs are welcome to join our walks. Some of our greyhounds may be new arrivals so please keep other breeds on leads until polite introductions have been made.
  • How long does the walk take?
    • Typically the walk will be around 2 miles long and depending on everyone’s pace, can take around an hour. There may be comfort stops or cafe stops offered along the way including water stops for the dogs.

    • Yes! We would love to hear your suggestions, please come along and tell us in person or use the Contact Page to get in touch.
  • Do I need any special walking equipment?
    • No, our walks are mainly on level ground and we try to stick to established paths but we are outside in the Greyt British countryside, so please dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear for the possibility of muddy or wet routes.
  • Are there any rules to be aware of?
    • Just the usual rules for walking your dog. We need to respect countryside and Highway Code rules whilst walking our dogs, so bring poop bags to clear up after your dogs, keep your dogs on leads in designated areas and be mindful of livestock, other walkers and traffic.

    • Of course! Everyone of any age or ability is welcome to join in. Some walks may be more strenuous so please read the walk description in advance, but we look forward to seeing you all.
